Repent

The ability to make a shift to systems thinking, a shift that requires looking at the whole and not just the parts, requires a "shift of mind."  It's a shift to understanding that behavior is a result of system structure, not simply a result of individual actions.

The Greek word for such a transcendent and fundamental shift of worldview is "metanoia." Peter Senge notes that in the Catholic corpus the word was eventually translated as "repent." This gives me an entirely different perspective on the word repent.

Senge says this is the most accurate word for what happens when an organization becomes a learning organization.
