Politics
Explaining Liberal Principles
11/12/04
Examining the principles that explain when governmental solutions are required to improve peoples' lives and the prosperity of the nation. This is a more complete treatment of "The Libertarian Menace"

Politics
The Conservative Mind
9/01/06
Quotes from The Conservative Mind from Burke to Eliot by Russell Kirk, 1953. It's considered the foundational book that's credited with inspiring the conservative resurgence in America.

Politics
Book Review: Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity: Get Out the Shovel--Why Everything You Know is Wrong
7/1/06
John Stossel rails against the minimum wage, calling those who oppose him ignorant and arrogant. The opposite is true.

Politics
Book Review: "Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy" by Peter Schweizer
12/02/05
"Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy" by Peter Schweizer is quite clever and effective. It's clever because it uses "logical sleight-of-hand" to confuse and obfuscate. And it's effective because so many actually buy his illogic. In this case "effective" really means "deceptive." Now includes a very negative response to this review and comments on that response.

Politics
Unbalanced Dave Kopel
3/30/05
This letter responds to a Rocky Mountain News column by libertarian Dave Kopel that claims that the Denver Post is more unbalanced (in favor of the "left") than the Rocky Mountain News.

Politics
Populism, 'Trade' and Jobs
3/30/07
Here are the slides on U.S. "trade" as well as on employment, unemployment and jobs in the U.S. and Colorado. Trade deficit trends are unsustainable and "trade" policy has undermined and is continuing to undermine the U.S. economy. I prepared these slides to show how important it is that the U.S. should have a populist president. John Edwards has been called a populist. Updated 8/28/07.

Politics
Response to a Conservative
10/12/06
A response to a casual diatribe against liberals, France, unions, and populism that lauds a "market economy that has made America the envy of the world and the place for real opportunity." The many issues raised are examined.

Politics
Big Disconnect by Paul Krugman + comment
9/1/06
This is a Paul Krugman column on why the economy isn't perceived to be as good as Bush maintains and why we need a populist movement. I sent it to my distribution with added comments on why the economy is worse, why unemployment is much worse than officially admitted, and why return to labor is falling. Below it is an anti-populist response.

Politics
The Plunge Protection Team
2/04/08
The Plunge Protection Team manipulates U.S. markets.

Politics
Albert Einstein on Socialism
1/24/08
In this essay, Einstein reflects on capitalism, on socialism, on what he calls the "economic anarchy of capitalist society," and on what to do about it. I add comments on how Social and Ethical Ends are created by humans, not by what's "natural"; on the Dimensions of Reality per Ken Wilber; on how the battle between the primacy of The Individual vs. the Collective has created The Crisis of Our Time; on Capitalism, Socialism, & Dictatorship; and on how the human-defined Rules of the Game have gotten us to where we are today.
